Samsungs latest stumble extends delay of foldable smartphonesSamsungs latest stumble extends delay of foldable smartphonesIs the Galaxy Fold becoming a mythical idea?In the ever-changing mobile phone landscape, Samsung promised to deliver a first-of-its-kind foldable smartphone earlier this year. The Galaxy Fold, which was first unveiled as a prototype in 2018, was promised to be a tablet-like device running on Google Android that could either kurze unterhose neatly into your pocket just like any other phone but could also flip open into a tablet with a 7.3-inch canvas.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreIt was supposed to debut on April 26 at $1,980, but as June approaches, the phone is nowhere to be seen and has run into some troubles. The troubles first started in April when Samsung yanked all Galaxy Fold samples to reviewers after users reported breaks and screen malfunctions, ac cording to Reuters. Earlier this month, Samsung said it wasnt able to confirm the shipping date for the Galaxy Ford and told preorder customers that if their phone wasnt shipped by May 31st, their order would be canceled. That alarm was only exacerbated when Best Buy said in a statement that it went ahead and canceled all preorders in the best interest of its customers.Samsung said in a statement to The Verge last week that a new release date would be announced in the coming weeks but that apparently isnt happening soon, according to a new report. The Korean Herald, citing industry sources, said the launch of the product isnt going to take place until after June due to setbacks. Samsung denied the speculation and said the sources couldnt be confirmed. The improvement process is taking place extremely confidentially, and comments from telecom industry sources cant be confirmed, Samsung said.Samsungs Galaxy Fold delay comes at a time when the tech company couldve held a firm grasp on the foldable smartphone market. Its main competitor is Chinas Huawei Mate X, but Huawei was recently placed on the Trump administrations US trade blacklist this month. That forced Google to ban Huawei from using its Android operating system and although the company reportedly is ready to announce a new OS soon, its appeal in the United States remains unclear without Android.Meanwhile, CNBC reported last year that Apples version of a foldable iPhone could be released in 2020. The tech giant has a few patents that date back nearly a decade of the concept.Apple has continued to focus on enhancing its current batch of products which included a new iPod touch that has group FaceTime capabilities and augmented reality.Samsung didnt immediately return Ladders request for comment for this story. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily sche dule that will double your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people
